The PRAGUE FOOD FESTIVAL is an annual outdoor three-day celebration of food in the Czech Republic, featuring the best chefs and drink experts from this country. Visitors can try out local and exotic delicacies served by the most interesting restaurants that have been ranked among the TOP 100 according to the independent research of Maurer’s annual GRAND RESTAURANT guide.
Every year we choose a unique venue for the festival, and this year is no different. Last year’s festival was held on water and on land in the historic area by the ancient Charles Bridge. The PRAGUE FOOD FESTIVAL 2010 will take place in the exclusive gardens of Prague Castle, the former seat of the Kings of Bohemia.
The Rajská (Paradise), Na Valech (On the Ramparts) and Hartigovská (Hartig) Gardens are three connected areas that border the entire south side of Prague Castle. The entrance to the Rajská Garden via the Plečnik-designed staircase is indeed grandiose. There are plenty of architectural gems to admire here, such as the Renaissance Matthias Pavilion, as well as unique natural features, such as the oldest wood species in the castle gardens – a 400-year-old red yew tree. What is particularly unique about this spot, however, is that is boasts an exquisite panorama of Prague. From the gardens there is a superb view of the dome of St. Nicholas Church. Fountains, Baroque sculptures, magnificent trees and romantic nooks are all featured in this year’s PRAGUE FOOD FESTIVAL.
This year’s festival programme is as diverse as ever. You’ll be able to choose from Czech, French, Japanese, Mediterranean, kosher and Asian cuisine … A broad range of accompanying events and plenty of new features have also been prepared.
Once again, there will be popular cooking shows with celebrity chefs. You can look forward to seeing the culinary stars Zdeněk Pohlreich and Roman Paulus, who will be presenting special courses for children on the podium, in addition to his traditional show. Apetit magazine editors will show you how to prepare food for the perfect photo – the art of food styling. Supervised tasting of olive oil from Andalusia is a new feature this year. Chef Riccardo Lucque will be showing what can be done with the Cooking Chef, a unique Kenwood food processor. Each cooking show will take place on the main podium throughout Friday and Saturday. Once again, the shows will be wonderfully equipped with Electrolux products.
On Sunday 30 May, you can take part in the Stella Artois Czech Draught Master Competition at the festival. Top gastronomy in combination with premium beer is the name of the game here. Another new feature is a beer sommelier presentation and the Stella Artois Public Bar, where you can win a certificate for the nine-step ritual of pouring and serving this premium Belgian lager.
The Bacchus wine import company has the longest tradition of importing wine to the Czech Republic, which is why its presence at the Prague Food Festival is so important. It will be featuring wines from across the world – Italy, France, Spain and Argentina. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to speak directly to the people involved in the production of wine in the countries represented.
Once again this year, the focus will be on children. For the first time, there will be a special children’s menu in ‘little’ Alcron, where people taller than 140 cm won’t be allowed in! And, of course, there will be pressies for all the little chefs!
NOWACO will once again be featuring the legendary Häagen-Dazs ice cream, which is relished in more than 70 different countries. Children in particular will love the Prima brand of frozen goodies. Gourmets will get to savour fresh oysters at the NOWACO stand. INTERSPAR will be offering a selection of nutritious goodies at their stand, including fresh fruit and vegetable juices and original chilled vegetable soups.
The Apetit TV camera will be on site throughout the festival. Large screens at the entrances and on the festival grounds will show reports from the festival, as well as video clips of events taking place, video recipe clips and other useful information.
You are welcome to come to South Gardens of Prague Castle from 28 to 30 May 2010, where you can enjoy the romantic nooks, the beauty of historic Prague and, above all, the best of food. This event is unique in its combination of all possible flavours and aromas with dazzling panoramic views of the city!
The festival will be held under the auspices of the Mayor of Prague and under the auspices and with the support of the Mayor of the Prague 1 borough.
